Toyota has announced a national recall of its cars to mend the faulty airbag inflators provided to it by Takata. The 770 000 Lexus and Toyotas that have been affected were produced from 2002 all the way to 2015.
Toyota has stated that there have been no serious instances since the airbags were fitted and that this recall is strictly precautionary.
Anyone who is in possession of a Toyota produced from the aforementioned timeline is advised to contact their nearest Toyota dealership in order to have the free repair conducted. Toyota SA has also established an official Takata Call Centre to locate customers that are affected.
If you fit this profile, this is how you can get in touch:
- Contact the Toyota Call Centre on 0800 129 111 (have your VIN number to hand – located on your vehicle licence disc);
- Go to www.Toyota.co.za/recall (once again have your VIN number handy);
- Download the MyToyota app – you will automatically be notified if your vehicle is affected. In addition the app will enable you to scan any Toyota licence disc to establish if it is affected by the Takata recall.
