The Volkswagen brand has released its production figures for 2019, with some 6 184 146 VW-badged units built (a hefty chunk by vehicle-producing joint ventures in China) during the year.
The Wolfsburg-based firm revealed the information during the VW Group’s annual media conference.
Interestingly, the Tiguan is at the very top of the pile, with a whopping 910 926 units produced in 2019. VW says the five-millionth Tiguan rolled off the assembly line at its Wolfsburg plant during the year (the vehicle is also manufactured at factories in China, Mexico and Russia).
Next up is the Polo (including the Virtus sedan) with 706 052 units built, followed by the Golf (679 351).
In addition, VW built 610 327 examples of the Jetta (including the Sagitar offered in China), along with 543 706 units of the Passat (including China’s Magotan). Interestingly, the German company has now built more than 30 million units of the Passat.
China’s Lavida (514 698) and Bora (345 077) also posted big numbers for the brand, followed by crossover newcomers, the T-Roc (328 069) and T-Cross (274 071). Further down the list you’ll find the Up (108 676) and Touareg (52 859).
Meanwhile, VW produced 54 941 units of its Saveiro half-tonne bakkie (interestingly listed under “passenger vehicles”), with the Amarok falling to 68 010 units under the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand.
