Swedish automaker Koenigsegg has set a new 0-400-0 km/h world record, with its Regera hypercar besting the firm's own record (which was set in 2017 in an Agera RS in Nevada, USA) of 33.29 by 1,8 seconds.

Piloting the Regera at Råda military airfield in Sweden, Sonny Peterson, the firm’s factory driver, managed to launch the car to the 400 km/h marker from standstill and back to zero in in 31.49 seconds. According to Koenigsegg, the Regera took only 22,87 seconds to sprint to 400 km/h over a distance of 1 613,2 m, after which the Peterson applied the brakes and the rear-wheel-driven hypercar came to a in just 8.62 seconds after travelling 435,26 m.

According to founder and CEO Christian von Koenigsegg the stopping time is a testament to the Regera’s balance, suspension, aerodynamics and its in-house design and brakes.

As a reminder, the Koenigsegg Regera employs a 5,0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine which is coupled with a 4,5 kW/h liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery. Combined, the Regera’s plug-in hybrid powertrain is good for “over” 1119 kW and 2 000 N.m of torque. Power is sent to the rear via the company’s one-speed automatic gearbox.

“This was a good opportunity to showcase the true capability of the Regera’s one-of-a-kind Direct Drive transmission,” founder and CEO Christian von Koenigsegg said.

“The car reaches its top speed like there is no tomorrow, but then there are no more gears. This actually suits the philosophy behind the Regera, which is ‘whoever gets to 400 km/h first wins’”.

Von Koenigsegg believes that the Regera can perform even better when the right conditions are met.
