Reports suggest that Honda will stop production of the CR-Z by the end of 2016, launching a special edition model in Japan to bid the hybrid sports-car farewell.
The Honda CR-Z Final Label special edition will soon be unveiled in the Japanese automaker’s domestic market, sporting some extra kit and a handful of “Final Label” badges.
The CR-Z, which employs a 1,5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine and an electric motor, and was facelifted in 2015, has not made as strong an impression on the global market as Honda would have hoped, largely failing to meet sales targets in the six years since its introduction.
So, ultimately, sluggish sales appear to have resulted in its demise.
“We made a comprehensive judgment [to halt production], including sales condition,” an unidentified Honda spokesperson said, according to the Bangkok Post.
At the moment, the Honda CR-Z is still offered in South Africa (in manual and automatic guise), with the local arm of the Japanese automaker shifting 23 units in May 2016.
