Although the JAC T6 has been available in our local market since 2018, a new 2,0-litre petrol motor has now been added to the range to appeal to entrepreneurs and fleet operators with its affordable price tag.
Over the past several years, there has been an influx of rebirthed Chinese brands to our local market that have improved quality and perception from initial endeavours. JAC Motors South Africa has been one of the quieter of the central Asian automakers to dabble in our market and their range of utilitarian bakkies and small trucks has been growing during their existence here.

The T6 enjoyed its local launch in 2018 and now, for the first time, will be offered in a 2.0L VVT petrol double-cab 4×2 Lux derivative. Karl-Heinz Göbel, CEO of JAC Motors South Africa stated: “The market feedback is clear. Customers, especially big transport operators, want petrol engine derivatives in their fleets. With the limited offer of one-tonne petrol engine workhorses in the local market, we have decided to add a petrol engine derivative to our local T6 range.”
The motor is good for 108 kW and 190 N.m and delivers the power to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission. JAC claims improved fuel economy with the new powertrain option to our market stating the bakkie is capable of travelling 800 km on a single 76-litre tank if the claimed 10,0 L/100 km is achieved.
Moderately equipped with safety features, the new JAC T6 comes with two airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and a Brake Override System (BOS). Standard features on the model include a reverse camera and rear park distance control for navigating around tight spaces.
On the inside, a leather trimmed-multifunction steering wheel greets the driver while cruise control, air-conditioning and electric windows are just some of the standard gear included in the JAC T6. For entertainment and connectivity, the bakkie includes a Bluetooth Radio//MP3 player with a 12-Volt accessory socket and USB port housed within a centre console binnacle.
The JAC T6 supports a 900 kg payload with a maximum braked towing mass of 2 000 kg. Starting from R320 000 the newcomer is also well priced in the double cab bakkie segment and as part of an ever-growing dealership network, can be purchased from any of the 65 JAC dealerships countrywide.
