The Jaguar XJ badge turns 50 years old in 2018. So, to celebrate, the British manufacturer has put together a new special edition model fittingly dubbed the XJ50.
Revealed at the Beijing Motor Show, the XJ50 is set to arrive in South Africa in September, along with the rest of the updated XJ range. It will be offered locally in both long- and standard wheelbase, powered by a 3,0-litre turbodiesel engine pushing out 221 kW and 700 N.m of torque.
The exterior features Autobiography-style front and rear bumpers, together with a set of 20-inch “Venom” alloy wheels. There’s also a black front grille and unique badging on the rear and side vents. Paint hues for the special edition will include Fuji White, Santorini Black, Loire Blue and Rosello Red.
Inside, you’ll find soft-grain diamond-quilted seats featuring an embossed “leaper” on the headrests. An XJ50 logo adorns the centre armrest and is repeated on the tread plates. Anodised gearshift paddles and bright metal pedals conclude the interior makeover.
In South Africa, the XJ50 will be offered alongside the high performance XJR575, the XJ Luxury, the Premium Luxury, the Portfolio, the R-Sport and top-of-the-range Autobiography models.
