It is the time of year when many embark on road trips but if you think your December travels were cool, check out this pack of Kalmar Porsche 911 Safaris endeavouring on an epic South American off-road adventure!
This pack of 911 Safaris that completed a massive South American journey makes many December travels seem demure. Motorsport aficionados may also notice some very familiar-looking backdrops and that is because the pack winded its way 11 000 km through South American terrain. Before the Dakar rally took to the dunes of the Middle East and after it left the savannahs of Africa, there was a stint in South America.
The Kalmar Porsche 911s trekked for 39 days through the continent, starting in Lima, Peru and ending in Ushuaia, Argentina, the continent’s southern point. This included the spectacular tourist destinations along the Andes; Machu Picchu, the Atacama Desert, Lake Titicaca and the Uyuni Salt flats to name a few.

Thousands of meters above sea level and in some treacherous and harsh terrain, the Kalmar Porsche 911s performed flawlessly. Garage queens? These Porsche 911 Safari owners have never heard the phrase, prepping their Stuttgart coupes for the journey with the help of Kalmar.
The automaker, which prepped the 964- and 993-series 911s has a division that builds and converts the models for customers. These also include upgrades to the Cayenne but the RS and RS-R are the firm’s rally-inspired cars. At the end of the procedure, Kalmar takes the 3,9-litre air-cooled flat-six and harnesses 294 kW and 400 N.m from it. A fair bit more than the 253 kW that comes as standard. This is courtesy of a larger 4,1-litre displacement which can power either the rear wheels or all four.
The upgrades expectedly don’t end there, a stock 911 would likely not survive the first few kilometres of off-road which is why Kalmar Automotive has equipped them with the greatest fighting chance against the South American terrain. This includes underbody protection, roll cages and lifted, upgraded suspension. The Cayenne models which also joined in on the action are available as the Kalmar CS and CS-R which can be prepared to specific taste.
