Kia’s rumoured double-cab bakkie rendered with firm’s family face…

A digital artist has released a fresh render imagining what Kia’s rumoured double-cab bakkie would look wearing the firm’s latest family face.

Seemingly using a press image of the Chevrolet Silverado (rather than the smaller Colorado, interestingly) as a base, an artist over at kksstudio in Korea came up with the image.

The render incorporates styling elements from the recently revealed fourth-generation Sorento as well as the new Seltos. Look closely at the headlamps, meanwhile, and you’ll notice a design that debuted on the new Kia K5/Optima.

In April 2019, a high-ranking Kia executive in the United States said there was “enough opportunity” for the Korean brand to build a bakkie, although added such a vehicle was “a long way down the road”.

Sister firm Hyundai, of course, seems relatively close to unveiling the production version of its long-awaited unibody Santa Cruz concept (which is scheduled to go into production in 2021), while it also seemingly has plans to build a proper ladder-frame bakkie to compete with the likes of the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger.
