A Land Rover executive has confirmed that the British brand plans to create an extreme off-roading version of its new Discovery.
John Edwards, the head of Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division, told Auto Express that a hardcore off-roading Discovery was on the cards.
“I can’t tell you what the SV version of the Discovery will be like, but in my mind it will be in between Paris Dakar and Camel Trophy. Somewhere in there is a product waiting to get out,” Edwards admitted to the British publication.
Although the executive provided no more details, Auto Express speculates that the new product will bear the SVX badge, and come complete with an upgraded chassis, additional body cladding, proper off-road tyres and a set of spotlights.
The publication expects the SVX to be based on the Discovery TDV6 derivative, with the chance of a slight increase in peak outputs, adding that the new model could be introduced later this year or in 2018.
