Toyota’s answer to the ever-popular Volkswagen Transporter, which made its debut in 1949, was the Hiace which has since been around for six generations over nearly six decades (57 years, to be precise), with the Japanese automaker’s people-mover having made its debut in 1967. Now, thanks to the folks at Pristine Motors, you can own a piece of Toyota’s Hiace history. Indeed, the Johannesburg-based car dealer is offering a 1975 Super 10 example for sale.

Finished in a light-blue body hue, this first-generation Toyota Hiace Super 10, endearingly (and rather appropriately) dubbed “Oupa Quantum” (it is the grandfather of the modern Hiace, no less), is listed for R89 950 at Pristine Motors. In addition, since it rolled off the production line 49 years ago, this example has travelled only 61 000 km.

Kitted for family road trips, the 1975 model is available for purchase and features a roof rack and a tow bar. In addition, this example has been equipped with a set of 14-inch alloy wheels, each of which is fitted with whitewall tyres to further make it a Mzansi special. Stepping inside, the seats are upholstered in a combination of leather and suede, while the two-spoke tiller is wrapped in rubber. A tape player is included in the package to further keep it as period correct as it was in its heyday.
The dealer doesn’t indicate which engine is employed by this example, though. However, a fair bet would be that it makes do with the 1.8-litre 16R, four-cylinder petrol unit, which was introduced to the Hiace line-up in the year this model was produced. Said engine is coupled with a four-speed manual gearbox, which directs power exclusively to the rear axle.
