With the success of Maserati’s new MC20 supercar, it is prime time for the Italian manufacturer to launch the all-new GranTurismo and make the most out of the buzz surrounding the Modena-based brand’s latest halo model.
The Alfieri sports car concept has been teased throughout the years however the automotive world will finally see it in the flesh under the designation: GranTurismo. Although some bodywork attributes have been changed, the finished 2022 GT will definitely maintain the concept’s beautiful contours and curves.
The specs of the 2022 Maserati GranTurismo/GT are yet to be officially announced by its manufacturer. To date, it has only been spotted in its camouflaged outfit or a camouflage Alfa Romeo Guilia body kit. Maserati has kept many details about the upcoming GT under tight wraps and as a result very little is known about the car, the majority of the photos and information available this car being mostly spy shots of the camouflaged prototypes and teasers here and there from Maserati.
The GranTurismo nameplate is long overdue for a revival with the previous model having enjoyed huge success over its 12-year production run. While very little is known about the powertrain at this stage, it is highly likely that the model will either adopt a detuned version of the MC20’s V6 engine or will receive an entirely new V8 motor. Rumours of fully-electric and hybrid powertrain options have been heard, however, as a result of the alarmingly scarce information about the car, it’s too early to tell whether or not these will become a reality. Its safe to say, however that Maserati would have considered these options in order to future-proof the new Grand Tourer.
In keeping with the ethos of previous GT models, the new GranTurismo will be a two-door coupé with seating for four. Photos of the test cars have confirmed many similarities between the 2022 model and previous-generation models. The GranTurismo will undoubtedly be outfitted with the latest safety and assistance technology, as well as Maserati’s latest infotainment system. Stylistically, the 2022 GT will keep the traditional large slotted front grille, as well as the vertical headlights that are present in previous iterations of the large Coupé.
