7 months after we saw the Maserati MC20 prototype in South Africa following a stint of hot weather testing, the Modena based firm’s new supercar has been awarded “Product Design of the Year” at the European Product Design Awards 2021. It also walked away with the “Top Design Winner” award in the Transportation/Auto/Truck/Mobile Home category and was crowned the “Winner” in the Transportation/Other Transportation Design category.
Jurors of the European Product Design Awards evaluate thousands of design projects from around the world, recognising the most aesthetically exciting, functional, and innovative products and the talented product designers behind them.
” Our mission was to design a car that would be remembered in the future as the model that launched the Maserati New Era. And I think we’ve achieved our goal with MC20. We are honoured to receive this coveted accolade, which recognises the work of an entire team, who have made a whole-hearted commitment to this unique project,” said Maserati’s Head of Design, Klaus Busse.
The product which is set to kick off Maserati’s new era, the MC20 is designed by the Centro Stile Maserati in Turin and is a masterclass of restrained proportion blended with interesting design cues.
MC20 is powered by Maserati’s new Nettuno V6 motor which offers 463 kW and 730 Nm, good for a sub-3 second 0-100 km/h. That’s rather fast, and the remarkable engine can be thanked for that. Developed, designed and built entirely by Maserati, the twin-turbocharged V6 features pre-chamber combustion technology which is genuinely derived from Formula 1 engines – not just an Elf sticker on a Clio, then…
The Maserati MC20 is due imminently in South Africa with pricing estimated to be in the R5,5-million region.
