Maserati has released images and initial details of its new twin-turbo V6 engine, which will generate 463 kW when it debuts in the upcoming MC20.

So, what do we know? Well, it’s a 3,0-litre V6 petrol engine featuring a dry sump and delivering its peak power at 7 500 r/min. Maximum torque of 730 N.m arrives from 3 000 r/min and sticks around until 5 500 r/min.

The “traditional” 90-degree twin-turbo V6 engine’s compression ratio is 11:1, while the stroke is 82 mm and the bore 88 mm. Maserati says the “Nettuno” engine weighs less than 220 kg and revs to 8 000 r/min.

The Italian firm says the “soul of the engine” is its pre-chamber combustion system, featuring twin-spark plugs. Maserati claims this technology is “derived from Formula 1” and has not yet been used on a production road car.

The new mid-engined MC20 is scheduled to be revealed on 9 September 2020.
