Mercedes-Benz says it will reveal a concept version of its upcoming bakkie next week, and has released a subtle teaser of the new pickup.
The teaser image, naturally, gives very little away. In fact, all it shows is the basic silhouette of the bakkie, which shares its underpinnings with the Nissan Navara.
Last month, we saw some spy footage of a prototype undergoing testing on the streets of Stuttgart, with a blanked-off grille and foglamps. In this footage, its relation to the Navara is clear.
All along, though, the German automaker has insisted that the final product – due to be added to the range as early as the second half of 2017, with South Africa identified as a key market – will bear all the “characteristics and features” of a proper Mercedes-Benz.
And next week we’ll at least have an idea (bearing in mind that the vehicle to be unveiled is not quite production ready) of what the new bakkie will look like.
