Mercedes-Benz has pulled its new E-Class advertisement from television in the United States after consumer groups accused it of being “misleading”.
The TV commercial, which is no longer being shown on American screens, detailed the new executive sedan’s various automated driving systems, which are grouped under what the Stuttgart automaker calls “Drive Pilot”.
However, consumer groups and safety advocates quickly branded the advert misleading, suggesting it overstated the ability of the E-Class to drive itself.
And it seems the US arm of the German automaker preferred not to take any chances, pulling the advertisement from TV and marking the YouTube version as “private”.
“The new 2017 E-Class is a technological tour de force and is a significant step towards achieving our vision of an accident-free future,” Mercedes-Benz spokesperson Donna Boland told Automotive News.
“We do not want any potential confusion in the marketplace to detract from the giant step forward in vehicle safety the 2017 E-Class represents,” she added.
