Celebrating its 80th anniversary, Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks has revealed what it bills the most luxurious and most powerful off-road Unimog ever built.

Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks has partnered with German specialist vehicle conversion company Hellgeth Engineering to create a bespoke Unimog featuring an array of luxury appointments. However, this one-off model is not only focused on opulence. The luxury Unimog also gains a more powerful engine.
Based on the Unimog U 4023, the opulent, yet off-road-ready, derivative ditches the latter model’s 5.1-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine for a 7.7-litre, six-cylinder turbodiesel unit (codenamed OM 936) producing 220 kW and a whopping 1 200 N.m of torque; increases of 50 kW and 300 N.m over the 5.1-litre mill. Power is transferred to the road via a selectable all-wheel-drive system, replete with longitudinal and differential locks on both portal axles. The one-of-a-kind Unimog is equipped with a set of aluminium beadlock wheels.
The luxury Unimog features a double-cab cabin offering space for up to four people. The luxury Unimog receives a leather interior, contrast stitching on the seats, leather floor mats, and LED interior lighting. A MirrorCam system replaces the traditional wing mirrors with digital cameras and monitors. The exterior is finished in a matte grey hue.
With this luxury Unimog, Mercedes-Benz is aiming to explore new territory by broadening the model’s appeal into the premium segment. This one-off model serves as a real-world testbed, allowing the brand to gather insights that could inform future Unimog development.
