The new Mercedes-Benz V-Class looks to reassert the Sindelfingen-based brand’s position atop the premium large MPV segment. With room for up to eight people, the V-Class offers space galore and fortunately, Mercedes-Benz did not sacrifice what fans and clients have come to expect of the brand.
“With the V-Class we offer a MPV with versatility, comfort and style, all in one eye-catching package. The variable interior and unmatched driving experience ensure that its advanced levels of safety and efficiency are enjoyed by our customers,” says Nicolette Lambrechts, Vice-President: Mercedes-Benz Vans.
The Mercedes-Benz V-Class comes with a raft of onboard technologies, such as Crosswind Assist (that stabilises the vehicle in strong crosswinds), Attention Assist (that warns driver of inattentiveness and drowsiness), and Active Parking Assist (that manoeuvres the V-Class into bays). These are only some of the standard features on the Benz MPV; they fall under the “Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive” banner.
As is to be expected, there is a long list of optional luxury features to choose from.
The entry-level 2,2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine produces 100 kW and 330 N.m in the V200 CDI. The same engine is utilised in the V220 CDI (120 kW/380 Nm) and in either state of tune the vehicles realise increases of 20 N.m and fuel consumption improvements of about 2,0 litres/100 km over their predecessors.
The top of the range V250 BlueTEC engine also employs the 2,2-litre diesel engine, but it develops 140 kW and 440 N.m of torque. These figures shadow the previous 3,0-litre V6 diesel engine in terms of power and when stomping on the accelerator, an extra 10 kW and 40 N.m are on offer for brisk overtaking acceleration.
The V-Class is packaged to appeal to adventurers and family-orientated folk alike. Whichever category you fall under, the V-Class will set you back between R695 981 and R984 196.
