Government has launched new mobile licence renewal stations in Gauteng as additional centres to the existing ones.
The Department of Transport says it aims to reduce the large backlog of applications, as over 30,000 motorists have been waiting for their renewed licences, according to eNCA.
“These facilities are going to be deployed to different areas, as you can see this is a bus and it can go anywhere and it uses diesel and we are able to deploy it to different sites where there is a need,” said Transport MEC, Jacob Mamabolo.
This comes after thousands of motorists complained they are unable to book appointments online, and queues at traffic departments were exceptionally long ahead of expiry dates throughout the country.
The first mobile station was opened in Midrand, Johannesburg. It is unclear whether the mobile stations will be expanded to other provinces.
