Automotive enthusiasts find every opportunity to exercise their pride and joy, particularly over long weekends where exotic and classic cars tend to be removed from their protective coverings and taken out of the confines of their secure garages. Concours South Africa enabled many Johannesburg based enthusiasts to do just this in an “Express” version of the event on Sunday.
The Neighbourhood Square located in Linksfield was host to the occasion which not only had iconic and rare automotive marvels on display but some live entertainment in the form of a Formula 1 simulator that instilled a sense of competition amongst the onlookers.
The star of the show was undoubtedly a Ferrari F40, one of six in South Africa, that took a landslide victory in the people’s choice only-event where shoppers, diners and car fans present on the day were given the opportunity to vote for their preferred choice.
The runner up went to a striking and immaculate Giallo Modena (yellow) Ferrari 355 F1 Spider while the Italian people’s car; a 1958 Fiat 500 N finished in Verde Chiaro (green) took the final spot on the podium.
While the top spots were dominated by Italian icons, there was an array of immaculate Porsches, Mercedes Benzes and BMWs that lined the shaded parking bays of the inconspicuous shopping mall.

Greg Marucchi, MC and co-owner of the prestigious South African event which was postponed in 2021 stated that: “We were delighted by the excellent turnout at our second ‘Express’ event following the disruption of the pandemic. Heartfelt thanks to all who turned up to celebrate “the good old days.”
If you missed out on this quaint event, be sure to follow Concours South Africa on Instagram to stay tuned for the next proper event which will take place on the first weekend of September 2022 and boast a garden party theme with seductive automotive masterpieces of new and old as a delightful backdrop.
