This, ladies and gentlemen, is the new all-electric BMW iX, billed as the Munich-based firm’s fresh “technology flagship”.
Set to go into production in Dingolfing from the second half of 2021, the new iX will employ two electric motors and a high-voltage battery rated (based on the brand’s “most recent calculations”) to develop more than 370 kW. That’s enough, says BMW, for a sprint from zero to 100 km/h in less than 5,0 seconds.
The company lists a power consumption figure of less than 21 kWh/100 km and a targeted range of more than 600 km (both calculated on the WLTP cycle). Thanks to a DC fast-charging function (up to 200 kW), BMW says more than 120 km of range can be added in just ten minutes. In fact, the firm claims the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in less than 40 minutes.
Just how big is the newcomer? Well, BMW says the iX is “comparable with the BMW X5 in length and width, and is almost the same height as the BMW X6 on account of its flowing roofline”.
Inside, the German company suggests the five-seater iX boasts space aplenty and various “high-quality materials”. Standout features include the hexagonally shaped steering wheel, a rocker switch for gear selection and the new curved display.
“The BMW Group is constantly striving to re-invent itself. That is a central element of our corporate strategy. The BMW iX expresses this approach in an extremely concentrated form,” said Oliver Zipse, chairman of the board of management of the BMW Group.
