The Jeep Grand Cherokee has been revealed for 2022 with an all-new architecture, plug-in hybrid powertrain and significant changes to the exterior and interior design. The new SUV will be offered with a number of different trims and engine options.
The fifth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee introduces the 4xe powertrain which uses a turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine together with two electric motors supported by a 17 kWh battery pack to produce 290 kW and 637 N.m of torque to all four wheels via an eight-speed torque converter.
This model can be had in Trailhawk trim which adds a Quadra-Drive II 4×4 system with two-speed transfer case and 2,72:1 low-range gear ratio, rear electronic limited-slip differential, Selec-Terrain traction management system and speed control, a 278 mm ground clearance, 610 mm water fording capability. 47,4:1 crawl ratio, blue tow hooks and blue-accented 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tyres.
Those looking for a more traditional powertrain can still opt for the naturally aspirated 3,6-litre V6 Pentastar will which boasts a power output of 216 kW and 353 N.m of torque. The larger 5,7-litre V8 is also available with 266 kW and 529 N.m. Both engines use the same eight speed torque converter as well.
New to the 4×4 system on the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a front-axle disconnect. If the vehicle senses that road conditions do not require all-wheel drive, the front-axle disconnect automatically places the system in two-wheel drive, reducing drag on the driveline and improving fuel economy. Four-wheel drive automatically re-engages when the vehicle senses it is needed.
The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee is built on an all-new architecture that was mission specific for the fifth-generation model. It’s a purpose-built and flexible architecture is engineered for both three- and two-rows, as well as electrified 4xe capability.
The new Grand Cherokee line-up consists of Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Trailhawk, Summit and Summit Reserve trims. Standard on all models is V6 mill while the V8 is available on Overland, Trailhawk, Summit and Summit Reserve. The 4xe is available on Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve.
Within the cabin of the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a 10,1-inch touchscreen infotainment system joined by a 10,25 digital instrument cluster. All models feature a new 16-way adjustable set of front seats with power lumbar and memory functions. The center console layout now has updated switches, more storage space in the front bin that can hold two wireless devices and a wireless charger.
Local introduction for the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee is yet to be confirmed.
