Towards the end of June 2018, McLaren revealed its latest Longtail model, the 600LT. Now the Woking-based automaker has shared the acceleration figures of what it bills as the “most extreme” road-legal Sports Series model ever.
Thanks to a recalibrated engine management system and less back pressure from that short top-exit exhaust system, the 3,8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 churns out 441 kW (at 7 500 r/min) and 620 N.m (between 5 500 and 6 500 r/min), up from the 570S Coupé’s 419 kW and 600 N.m.
The result is a claimed 0-100 km/h time of just 2,9 seconds, matching the acceleration of the 675LT Super Series model. A blast from zero to 200 km/h takes a claimed 8,2 seconds, before the 600LT tops out at 328 km/h. And the quarter-mile? Some 10,4 seconds.
McLaren says the new model’s unique bodywork “optimises aerodynamic performance”, working in conjunction with the flat carbon-fibre floor to produce 100 kg of downforce at 250 km/h.
The braking system comes from the Super Series, and features lightweight aluminium callipers and stiffer carbon-ceramic discs, reducing weight by 4 kg and working in conjunction with a new brake booster. The result is what McLaren calls “incredibly responsive and progressive pedal feel” and a 200km/h to standstill distance of 117 metres (that’s just a single metre more than a McLaren P1 can manage).
As previously reported, production of the new 600LT will “strictly limited”, kicking off in October 2018 and lasting for around 12 months, with build slots scheduled around existing Sports and Super Series models, as well as the Senna, Senna GTR and BP23.
