In typical Swedish and down-to-business fashion the Volvo S60 Black Edition is exactly that; a special edition model festooned with black trim and details to differentiate it from the standard model. “Fewer than 450” are planned and will enter the US market in their spring this year.
The traditionally minimal brand and their limited edition model will feature plenty of black trim on the exterior which is most obvious in the front end with the darker grille and Volvo badging in the middle. All window trim and side mirrors now boast a sleek shiny black coat while an exclusive set of 19-inch rims finished in gloss black sit on all four corners of the 4761 mm long sedan.
The rear Volvo lettering on the boot lid is now as I am sure you can expect, also in black and the exhaust tips on the bottom of the bumpers have been darkened too.
The Swedish brand pledged to build “fewer than 450” of the Volvo S60 Black Edition for the 2022 model year and the special edition will only be available in two exterior colours; Crystal While Metallic and the ominous looking Onyx Black Metallic.
Since this is purely an appearance package, the mechanicals underneath the blacked out trim and bodywork remain unchanged. This means that a Volvo S60 Black Edition still employs a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder with a PHEV trim in the top-spec.
The sleek Swedish designed and American refined sedan still boasts 309 kW from before.
Eric Beak, Volvo USA head of design stated that: “The design of the S60 Black Edition evokes a passionate response across the company,” further adding that the American design team holds a high sense of pride for the creation. While the S60 and V60 ranges were discontinued in our local market as a result of a declining D-segment, the latest Volvo S60 Black Edition will likely be available exclusively in the US but at least we get to enjoy the provided press photos of the luxury based Swede.
