The GWM Tank 500 has received a selection of interior upgrades, including for features and technology, in China. Here’s what’s new…

GWM has handed the Tank 500 a fresh round of upgrades for the 2027 model year. The most notable revisions have been made to the interior. Stepping inside, a new dual display layout takes pride of place on the facia. The setup comprises a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen (replacing the current, 14.6-inch unit) and front passenger display of similar size. The 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and (model-dependent) head-up display remain unchanged.
The audio system has also been upgraded to include 22 speakers, of which two are incorporated into the front passenger seat’s headrest. The front pews’ backrests also incorporate fold-out tray tables for rear passengers. A ‘bed mode’ is also present.
The camera-based rear-view mirror has been updated to provide the driver with a broader view of the road behind. Model-dependent, the refreshed Tank 500 features the Chinese automaker’s Coffee Pilot 4 suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and LiDAR.

2027 GWM Tank 500 for South Africa?
GWM’s local arm has yet to announce whether the South African Tank 500 lineup will adopt the aforementioned upgrades. As a reminder, the current local lineup comprises three derivatives, available with a single engine and transmission option, two drivetrains, and three trim grades.
Employed across the range is GWM’s new 3.0-litre turbodiesel powertrain, which is also available in the P500 double-cab bakkie. The four-cylinder oil-burner produces 170 kW and 620 N.m of torque — the latter available from a low 1 400 r/min. Power is delivered to the road via either a 4×2 or 4WD drivetrain, both of which paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The lineup is priced from R849 900 for the Super Luxury 4×2 to R999 900 for the flagship, Overland 4WD derivative. Bookended by the former and latter, the Ultra Luxury 4WD retails for R929 900.
