Boasting 350 kW, the BYD Shark 6 Performance has arrived in South Africa. See pricing and specs below…
In April 2026, BYD announced the Shark 6 Performance, a more powerful version of the Chinese automaker’s plug-in hybrid (PHEV) double-cab bakkie. However, at the time, the Shenzhen brand had yet to confirm whether the new flagship model will make its way to South Africa. Well, it’s now here, with BYD’s local arm revealing pricing and specs.
The Shark 6 Performance employs BYD’s latest DMO (Dual Mode Off-road) Super Hybrid system, which comprises a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and a duo of electric motors sited at the front and rear, respectively. As a reminder, the Shark 6 Premium’s dual electric motors are coupled with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine.
The Shark 6 Performance produces combined power and torque outputs of 350 kW and 700 N.m – increases of 29 kW and 50 N.m over the “standard” Shark 6, which we evaluated for a road test in 2025. As such, the Shark 6 Performance now tops the list of most powerful bakkies in SA. BYD claims the Shark 6 Performance completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.5 seconds; two-tenths of a second quicker than its 321 kW/650 N.m sibling.
In addition to gaining Crawl Mode, the Shark 6 Performance also boasts an improved braked towing capacity compared to the Premium derivative, at 3 500 vs 2 500 kg.
