The Toyota Supra turns 35 this year, and to mark this, Toyota has launched a special edition of their BMW Z4 in a silk kimono – the Toyota GR Supra 35th Anniversary Edition. Interestingly, during the Supra’s 35-year lifetime, the Supra was not in production for almost as long as it has been…
Scepticism aside, the pair of special edition coupes will be limited to just 35 of each and are destined for the Japanese market only, from December.
The two models on offer are the 3,0-litre six-cylinder RZ Supra and the 2,0-litre SZ-R Supra. The RZ is finished in Matte Storm Grey with red leather seats, 35th-anniversary’ carbon ornament’ aka dashboard trim, and black 19-inch forged wheels, whereas the SZ-R is available with the same carbon bits and wheels as the RZ, red leather/black alcantara upholstery, and in a few more colour choices – White Metallic, Ice Gray Metallic, Black Metallic, Prominence Red and Lightning Yellow.
The decision as to which 70 Japanese Supra fans will receive an allocation has been left to some software in the form of a virtual bid. The ballot will close on the 31st of August with the draw taking place on the 7th of September. Pricing is ¥6 535 000 (approximately R875 500) for the four-cylinder model and ¥7 834 991 (approximately R1,05 million) for the straight-six Supra.
