The GT 63 S E Performance employs a plug-in hybrid powertrain comprising Mercedes-AMG’s familiar 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, which, here, has been tuned to produce 460 kW and 850 N.m of torque, and a 150 kW/320 N.m permanently excited synchronous electric motor. Power is sent to all four corners via the firm’s nine-speed AMG Speedshift transmission. The apex two-door GT’s petrol-electric setup produces a total system output of 600 kW and a whopping 1 420 N.m, allowing for a whip-crack claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of 2.8 seconds. The company quotes a top speed of 320 km/h.
The GT 63 S E Performance is brought to a halt by fore and aft carbon-ceramic brake discs, measuring 420 mm and 380 mm in diameter, respectively. The braking setup further features six-piston front and single-piston floating rear callipers. The E Performance GT 63’s electric motor is coupled with a 400 V battery pack. According to the automaker, the 6.1 kWh lithium-ion unit provides an electric-only operating range of 13 km. The claimed average fuel consumption is 12.3 L/100 km.
