The Acura NSX Type S has been revealed as a last hurrah for the Japanese supercar that was first introduced to select markets in 2013. Together with this new moniker is an increase in power and a lightweight package for more enthusiastic drivers.
Powering the Acura NSX Type S is the twin-turbocharged 3,5-litre V6 petrol engine that is assisted by a rear direct drive motor and front twin motor unit that delivers a collective 447 kW and 667 N.m of torque. A nine-speed dual clutch transmission sends this power to the car’s Sport Hybrid super handling all-wheel drive system which is further aided by a wet multi-plate limited slip differential. The result of this is a 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) time of under three seconds and a top speed of 307 km/h.
Exclusive to the Acura NSX Type S is a six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembo brake set with red finished callipers fitted as standard. Pirelli has also gotten on-board to create a bespoke compound of the P-Zero to help maximise its grip. These tyres wrap around a new five-spoke alloy wheel that increases the front and rear track by 10 mm and 20 mm respectively.
Where design is concerned, the Acura NSX Type S features a new nose with larger and more angular air intakes and a larger rear diffuser inspired by the GT3 racecar. These two elements work together to improve high-speed stability while the new shape of the carbon fibre front spoiler minimises aerodynamic lift. For improved cooling, a larger front grille has been applied together with four additional openings.
Other exclusive design cues applied to the Acura NSX Type S consist of unique side skirts, rear deck-lid spoiler, carbon fibre roof and Gloss Berlina Black finishes for the door mirrors, handles, exhaust tailpipe and front and rear badges. In true Honda fashion, the head- and taillamp lenses have been given a dark tint while a distinctive red engine cover adds more of a dynamic element. The design is rounded of by a collection of Type S decals.
For increased performance and an even more custom appearance buyers can add the available lightweight package. This adds a high-gloss carbon fibre engine cover and carbon ceramic brakes. Inside, the lightweight package includes carbon fibre accents on the steering wheel and a carbon fibre metre bonnet. With all of these revisions, kerb mass has been reduced by 26,2 kg.
Just 350 units of the Acura NSX Type S will be assembled, 300 of which are reserved for the USA.
