The 8th of February 2021 at 9:00 AM EST was set to be the launch of the latest SUV from the Italian automaker but the Tonale leaked on French Stellantis website ahead of its launch and it’s as pretty as we thought it would be. Some engine information that was privy prior to its launch has also been released.
Arese will be buzzing with activity today for the launch of Alfa Romeo’s second SUV, after their saving grace found in the superb Stelvio. Late last night on the French Stellantis portal, videos were aired that revealed the final production version of the compact SUV. With the Tonale leaked, this is what we can decipher.
Portrayed in Montreal Green and Misano Blue with the aggressive looking SUV dancing around an abandoned factory floor, enjoying the vacancy of country roads and spending some time in a studio setting we can deduce that there are no significant changes to the pretty aesthetics from its concept counterpart.
Looks aside, engine information on the new model has also been leaked with different variations which should put this compact SUV right in the fight with the premium segment which is dominated by the likes of the Audi Q3, BMW X1/X2 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
Several powertrain options will be available in the Tonale including two front-wheel drive hybrid 48V solutions, a plug-in hybrid with Q4 all-wheel drive while a conventional front-wheel drive diesel and a Q4 all-wheel drive petrol option will also be subject to regional availability.
The interior has been toned down a notch from concept but still retains the overall form of the seductive cockpit that we first saw a few years ago. The changes naturally incorporate conventional air vents, buttons and a gear lever.
After suffering delays in production, we are glad the new Alfa Romeo Tonale has finally been born into the world but we are ecstatic that it is as pretty as we thought it would be.
