According to new reports out of the United Kingdom, Aston Martin is planning to produce a mid-engined V8 supercar.
Unfortunately, it seems we’ll have to wait until 2022 for this model to become a reality.
Aston Martin design chief Marek Reichman revealed to Autocar that the upcoming supercar would be “more mainstream” than the AM-RB 001 hypercar on which the British brand is currently working, adding that “we do [such] projects to learn from them”.
“All car designers want to design a mid-engined supercar. It’s why you become a designer,” Reichman told the publication.
Before this model arrives, however, the brand plans to launch the DB11, the new Vantage, the new Vanquish, the DBX crossover, and a pair of Lagondas (one likely an SUV, according to Autocar).
“By early 2022, we’ll have seven cars, all with seven-year life spans,” Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer said.
“And we’ll launch an all-new car every year: copy, repeat, copy, repeat. And you start to straighten out history. It’s not rocket science,” he said.
The last time the British brand talked about a mid-engined car was back in 2014, when it created the Aston Martin DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo concept pictured above.
