The Virtual Cockpit that replaced the instrument panel in the current TT coupe and new R8 supercar will be made available across the Audi product range, starting with the A3 hatchback in 2016.
Next year, the A3 will receive its mid-cycle facelift and included in the list of upgrades is the Virtual Cockpit infotainment hub that sits where the traditional instrument panel would. While the TT and R8 have the Virtual Cockpit as part of their standard equipment, it’ll be optional on the A3 and cost in the region of R6 000.
According to Audi’s electronics boss Ricku Hudi, the Virtual Cockpit system will then roll out to the rest of the Ingolstadt-based firm’s line-up, such as the next generation Q5 and A5 models.
