In 2016 CARmag reported that Audi is “looking at” the possibility of adding a hotter S-line derivative to its (then new) Q2 range. Now the German automaker has finally lifted the wraps off its SQ2 crossover ahead of the Paris Motor Show.
This top-of-the-line Q2 will, like all its S stablemates, be equipped with Quattro technology, allowing its 2,0-litre turbocharged engine to send 221 kW and 400 N.m of torque to all four corners via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Ingolstadt based brand says this is enough to propel its smallest crossover to three figures in a time of 4,8 seconds, before reaching an electronically limited top-speed of 250 km/h.
To make sure the most powerful Q2 comes to standstill, Audi has fitted this model with 340-mm brakes at the front and 310-mm units at the rear. Adding to its sporty persona, this S-line derivative is 20 millimetres lower than the more tamed Q2 models. Stiffer suspension is fitted, too.
Front and rear LED lights and a digital instrument cluster will be included in this model’s asking price. Customer’s will, however, have to pay more for S-labeled brake callipers, painted in red. And buyers will have the option of fitting their SQ2 with either 18-inch or 19-inch wheels.
Pricing for this new top-of-the-range S-line crossover is yet to be revealed. And whether it will be made available in South Africa. Until then, as a reference, the current top-spec Q2 (in 1,4TFSI Sport guise) available in South Africa costs R534 000.
