New BMW 320i, 330d, M340i for South Africa! Check out local pricing…

By: CAR magazine

In May 2019, BMW South Africa confirmed it would expand its 3 Series range from July 2019 production, adding the 320i, 330d and M340i xDrive derivatives to the local line-up. And now we can share pricing for these three newcomers.

At the G20-generation model’s local launch in March 2019, just two variants (the 320d and 330i) were offered. But when the first units of these three new derivatives hit SA roads (from around September 2019, by our reckoning), the range will become five-strong.

So, let’s start with the M340i xDrive, which will sit at the summit of the line-up (before the arrival of the upcoming M3, of course). This model offers 275 kW and 500 N.m from its turbocharged 3,0-litre straight-six petrol engine and will be priced from R980 572. BMW SA will furthermore offer this variant in “Launch Edition” trim, which pushes the price to R1 005 072.

With all-wheel drive and an eight-speed Steptronic sports transmission (complete with launch control) included as standard, the Munich-based firm claims this M-badged 3 Series will sprint to 100 km/h in 4,4 seconds. The standard features list is expected to include M Sport suspension (lowering the ride height by 10 mm), variable sports steering, an M Sport differential, an M Sport braking system (with 348 mm discs fore and 345 mm items aft) and 18-inch M light alloy wheels with mixed tyres (225/45 R18 on the front axle and 255/40 R18 at the rear).

The 320i, meanwhile, will slot in as the entry-level petrol model, powered by a turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder engine sending 135 kW and 300 N.m to the rear axle. Pricing here starts at R615 771, although specifying the 320i in Sport Line Launch Edition will add some R15 000.

Finally, the 330d will slot in above the 320d and boast a 3,0-litre inline-six turbodiesel worth 195 kW and 580 N.m. It will be priced from R738 177.

Pricing:
BMW 320i: R615 771
BMW 320d: R649 253
BMW 330i: R652 416
BMW 330d: R738 177
BMW M340i: R980 572
