BMW has lifted the wraps off the halo M8 Gran Coupé, which will be offered in standard form and hotter Competition flavour.
The four-door performance saloon is powered by the Bavarian automaker’s 4,4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine which, in standard M8 Gran Coupé guise, produces 441 kW and 750 N.m of torque. The flagship Competition model, however, gains an extra 19 kW, upping its power output to a whopping 460 kW. This is enough, BMW claims, to launch the M8 Competition Gran Coupé to the 100 km/h marker from standstill in 3,2 seconds, while the non-Competition model gets there a tenth of a second later.
Power is sent to all four corners via an an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. Like its two-door M8 Coupé stablemate, the Gran Coupé is equipped with BMW’s rear-wheel-biased xDrive all-wheel-drive setup, replete with 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD driving modes, the latter offering “pure” rear-wheel drive while stability control is deactivated.
The Munich-based firm says the M-badged 8 Series Gran Coupé variants are more rigid than the standard models, while the weight of the body and chassis has been minimised. The M8 Gran Coupé has been received a carbon-fibre rood and a “precisely tuned” aerodynamic package.
On the inside, standard equipment includes Exclusive M sports seats, an M-specific head-up display, BMW’s intuitive Live Cockpit Professional system, featuring sat-nav, and the firm’s Intelligent Personal Assistant and driving- and parking assistant functionality.
