German tuner McChip-DKR has revealed its first stage in performance upgrades for the G15-generation BMW 8 Series, handing the M850i coupé derivative M8-beating power.
As standard, the M850i xDrive coupé’s 4,4-litre V8 sends 390 kW and 750 N.m of torque (the latter from a low 1 800 r/min) to all four corners via BMW’s eight-speed Steptronic transmission. However, after receiving some attention from the Mechernich-based firm, the twin-turbo petrol engine churns out a whopping 478 kW and 850 N.m. That’s 18 kW and 100 N.m more than the M8 Competition, which we’ve already sampled in Portugal.
McChip-DKR says the modified M850i xDrive coupé is capable of achieving a top speed of 300 km/h, 50 km/h more than the (governed) figure of the model it is based on and 5 km/h less than the halo 8 Series’ maximum speed.
The company has yet to unveil the claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of the uprated M850i, but, for reference, the standard version reaches the three-figure mark in a claimed 3,7 seconds, while the M8 Competion gets there five-tenths quicker.
How much does this performance increase cost? The package is priced at €1 899, which at the current exchange rate translates to around R31 000. Of course, you’ll also have to supply McChip-DKR with an M850i xDrive coupé…
