BMW Z4 R is an M40i roadster … but with sleeker looks and 294 kW!

Since BMW has no plans to build an “M” variant of its G29-generation Z4, Lightweight Performance has revealed an “R” tuning pack for the roadster.

The upgrade includes a bump in power, a custom exhaust system and slight alterations to the exterior design.

The German firm has increased the peak outputs of the M40i’s twin-scroll turbocharged 3,0-litre straight-six from the standard 250 kW and 500 N.m of torque to a somewhat healthier 294 kW and 570 N.m, largely by means of an ECU upgrade.

While a 0-100 km/h time hasn’t been listed, the tuner says top speed has been raised to 300 km/h. A downpipe and a stainless-steel exhaust have also been fitted.

To improve the handling, the Z4 R has been handed a Bilstein suspension setup, which lowers the ride height by 15 mm, along with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres. Revisions have been made to the braking system as well.

Enhancing the visual presence, Lightweight Performance has installed a front splitter and rear spoiler fashioned from carbon. Quad-tailpipes, which can be finished in either matte black or carbon, add aggression to the rear design.
