German tuner Brabus has lifted the wraps off not one but two new limited-edition “high-performance off-roaders” based on the latest Mercedes-AMG G63.
Dubbed the “Black Ops 800” and “Shadow 800”, these models are bespoke versions of the Brabus 800 Widestar, which the company revealed in March 2019. Just ten units of each will be built.
Like the Widestar 800, each employs an uprated version of the G63’s twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 petrol engine, which as standard produces 430 kW and 850 N.m of torque. As the number in the model names suggests, the engine has been tuned to churn out 800 hp (that’s a whopping 588 kW in our language). Peak torque output comes in at an equally impressive 1 000 N.m, which is available from 3 600 r/min.
According to the Bottrop-based firm, both tuned G models will complete the 0-100 km/h sprint-time in just 4,1 seconds, before topping out at an electronically limited 240 km/h. Mercedes-AMG claims the standard G63 will reach the 100 km/h mark from standstill in 4,5 seconds (for the record, during a road test of the Mercdes-AMG G63, CAR achieved a time of 4,44 seconds).
Both vehicles have been fitted with company’s stainless steel sport exhaust system, allowing the driver to switch between a set of exhaust notes, such as “Sport” (a loud V8 burble) and “Coming Home” (a hushed exhaust note) modes. Other similarities include Widestar bodykits and 23-inch “Platinum Edition” forged alloys.
Subtle exterior upgrades are added to the models to define them from one another. The Black Ops 800 is, for instance, finished in gloss-black paintwork and features black brake callipers and red detailing. The Shadow 800 is distinguishable by it Gunmetal Grey hue, with the surrounding body panels painted in black. Carbon-fibre elements can be found on both models.
How much does this exclusivity and extra power cost? Well, the Brabus Black Ops 800 is priced at €275 055, while the Shadow 800 will cost you €327 621. By doing a quick Euro-to-Rand conversion at the current exchange rate, these limited-edition off-roaders will cost around R4 460 200 and R5 312 600 respectively (before any import tax, of course)…
