Carlex Design reveals special Mercedes-AMG G63 ‘Steampunk Edition’!

Polish automotive design company Carlex Design has whipped the wraps off the Mercedes-AMG G63 Steampunk Edition, a bespoke version of Affalterbach’s halo G-Class sporting myriad steampunk-inspired design cues, inside and out.

The Mercedes-AMG G63 Steampunk Edition rides on 22-inch alloys, finished in copper. The latter hue can also be found on the door strips and, most notably, the contrasting roof, featuring a model-specific inlay design. A similar motif is reflected in the hand-made copper-coloured spare wheel cover. Signalling it’s no run-of-the-mill G63, Steampunk Edition lettering can be found on the wheel rims and brake callipers.

According to the firm, “every millimetre” of this limited edition Geländewagen “exudes the imagination and gloom of the Victorian era”. The steampunk-inspired design cues thus extend to the interior.

The cabin is trimmed in hand-decorated leather, featuring copper- and rose gold-coated items, while the Alcantara roof lining is embroidered with steampunk motifs, resembling those found on the roof. In addition, Carlex Design has done away with standard carpeted floor, opting instead for more period-appropriate American walnut wood trim.

Available in limited numbers (only 10 units will be made), it takes some 5 000 hours to produce one Steampunk Edition, the tuner says.
