With the Chevrolet Camaro now being one of the fastest sportscars to go around the Nurburgring, it’s only fitting that Chevrolet creates a couple of special concepts for SEMA. What we have here is the Turbo AutoX and Slammer concepts, both of which fulfill very different needs.
Turbo AutoX
The Turbo AutoX goes against the Camaro’s musclecar conventions as it makes use of a turbocharged 2,0-litre LTG engine with efficient suspension, brakes, air intake and exhaust systems.
This concept is aimed at developing new performance parts for the Camaro in order to push it in a new direction. For instance, it gains a 20 mm drop in height thanks to stiffer springs and specifically tuned dampers to make it much more agile in the corners.
Ridigity is further improved thanks to a concept strut tower brace installed under the hood. Extra grip is provided by the 20-inch aluminium wheels mated to a set of Goodyear 285/35 R20 tyres.
Stopping time has also improved, with the implementation of a performance brake kit consisting of six-piston calipers and 370 mm, two-piece slotted rotors.
The Turbo AutoX also promises a more interactive experience, as it makes use of a six-speed manual transmission with a short-throw shifter.
Slammer
This one is all about the image as it draws design inspiration from the American hot rod era. The Slammer makes use of some excessively large 22-inch front and 24-inch rear alloy wheels. The air-suspension kit also just about flattens the ride height to the ground.
The general image has also been darkened out by the Dazzling Black paint-job, which consists of a unique tri-coating treatment that incorporates gloss-white flakes for some extra sparkle. Head- and taillamps have been tinted out with the windows and the bow-tie badges have been darkened out.
Despite not being a performance driven concept, the Slammer makes use of the 340 kW LT1 6,2-litre V8 and a set of Brembo brakes for the front wheels. Power is delivered to the rear through a six-speed manual transmission with active rev-matching.
Other minor enhancements include a tweaked rear axle and a stainless steel exhaust system.
