Great Wall Motors’ luxury sub-brand Wey has released teaser images of a new off-roading SUV that looks strikingly similar to the freshly revealed Ford Bronco.
While the Chinese firm has yet to fully unveiled the newcomer (thus far known only by its internal codename, “P01”), it appears to borrow a number of cues from the four-door version of the Blue Oval’s box-fresh Bronco.
The headlamps, for instance, are alike (although the Wey P01’s have been flipped), as are the taillamps … and indeed the vehicle’s general proportions.
There are some key differences, however, including the fact the GWM version has squared-off (rather than rounded) wheel arches and that the side-mirrors are affixed to the doors (rather than to the A-pillars, like in the case of the Bronco). In addition, the P01’s doors and roof don’t appear to be removable.
While technical details of the Wey P01 are thin on the ground, reports from China suggest it will be based on the same platform as the Haval H9, drawing its power from a turbocharged 2,0-litre petrol engine.
Established in 2016, the Wey brand effectively slots in above Haval as GWM’s luxury SUV marque.
