This medium-sized SUV measures 4 750 mm in length and boasts a wheelbase of 2 880 mm. Despite the wheels being powered by electric motors, the off-roader features a 1.5-litre engine under the bonnet which plays a distinctive role as a generator dedicated to charging the batteries. Thus, this Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) is equipped with two electric motors, delivering a combined rated power of 35 kW and 60 kW. While the peak power output is still under wraps, prospective buyers can anticipate an impressive performance. Deepal offers two LFP battery options: 18.4 kWh and 35.1 kWh, catering to varied preferences.
Designed with off-road comfort in mind, the G318 is expected to feature a body-on-frame construction. The nomenclature, borrowing from China’s national highway 318, connecting Chengdu in the Sichuan province to Tibet, suggests a vehicle geared for adventurous road trips along this iconic route.
The G318’s exterior exudes a classic square shape, typical of rugged off-road vehicles. Its frontal profile showcases C-shaped LED headlights, a solid bumper, and a closed front panel, projecting a formidable presence. A rising window profile at the D-pillar, concealed door handles, high-clearance wheel arches, and petal-shaped rims contribute to its off-road aesthetics. Roof racks and roof lights underline its practicality for exploration.
At the rear, the G318 sports the trademark external spare tyre, a hallmark of hardcore off-road vehicles. The side-opening tailgate, coupled with C-shaped taillights echoing the headlights, adds to its distinct design. Notably, the G318 doesn’t just promise off-road capability but also supports towing and a tank turn mode, allowing the vehicle to execute a 360-degree turn on the spot.
The G318 now aims to appeal to off-road enthusiasts shopping in the Deepal portfolio. The company’s strategic focus on blending electric power with off-road prowess positions this SUV as an intriguing choice for those seeking adventure beyond the beaten path.
