Not too long ago Volkswagen released its T6 Kombi with a classic two-tone paintjob as an ode to the vintage T1. Now automotive designer David Obendorfer has taken this even further and rendered a complete reconstruction with a bit of a modern take and labelled the project as the T1 Revival.
The T1 design is T6 based with minor differences such as a 7 cm increase in the wheelbase.
Obendorfer’s intention for this redesign was to capture the unique personality seen in the classic T1 and to translate that into a contemporary form with curved surfaces, rounded corners, circular headlights, chrome details and bicolor car paint.
The interior sees a similar concept with a compact tablet, surrounded by rounded controls for the climate system. The minimalistic design is completed by a small gear lever, electric parking brake and a classic steering wheel with chrome inserts and integrated audio and cruise control buttons.
It’s a pity we’ll never see this model reach the production line.
