It would be hard to imagine a classic Mustang trundling down the road without the trademark soundtrack of an American V8. Charge Cars have given us the opportunity to experience a silent muscle car as Eleanor gets electrified.
The Ford Mustang may very well be one of the most recognisable motor cars from popular culture. In every single appearance of its on-screen fame it is accompanied by the sound of a thundering V8. Bullit, Gone in Sixty Seconds and the Fast and the Furious franchise are some that come to mind.
So naturally when Ford decided to slap a Mustang nameplate on its Mach-E EV SUV, the automotive world was naturally up in arms. We’re not saying that putting an electric powertrain in their existing Mustang shape would have rectified this but rather that the cult model has a stubborn following that will deem sacrilege for anything that deviates from the standard recipe.
Luckily, the little piece of information from the latest creation from Charge Cars might appease Muscle car aficionados as the reborn Mustang EV does not butcher a classic model to create their own. The studio’s boss Mark Roberts says it’s rather “a brand-new electric Mustang, completely redefined.” with only 499 examples set to be produced. Pricing will start at £350,000 before options and accessories are added onto the bespoke EV.
Motor enthusiasts with a keen eye will notice that it is based on an officially-licensed 1967 Mustang Fastback shell with an electric system putting a peak power output of 400 kW and 1,500 N.m of instantaneous torque. The all-wheel-drive system will enable the reborn Mustang to hit 100 km/h in only 3.9 seconds. This means that it is a slightly earlier model to the pop-star that Nicholas Cage piloted in the 2000 hit movie Gone in Sixty Seconds.
Eleanor gets electrified and she looks good doing so!
