The refreshed Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLB models have arrived in South Africa, with both featuring a suite of updates in a bid to enhance their appeal. Here’s how much you can expect to pay…

With the revisions, the Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLB now sport more assertive front ends, thanks to redesigned grilles, replete with vertical louvres and prominent horizontal fins. The front bumper has also been revamped. At the same time, lighting technology has seen several improvements. The LED head- and taillamp clusters now feature updated light signatures.
In addition, the Three-pointed Star brand has broadened the customisation options for the GLA and GLB. Mercedes-Benz now offers four additional (optional) wheel designs, including the standard 18-inch alloy wheels. For those desiring a more robust stance, 19- and 20-inch items are available. Additionally, a new body hue – called Spectral Blue – has been added to the exterior colour palette.

Inside, both the GLA and GLB feature, as standard, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a seven-inch digital instrument cluster. A 10.25-inch version of the latter is available as an option. These systems feature the latest-generation MBUX interface, which includes newly designed display styles. Drivers can toggle between themes like Classic, Sporty, and Discreet, the latter minimising the display to essential content for a cleaner look.

When it comes to the the powertrain line-up, the GLA 200 is equipped with a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol powertrain. The latter, four-cylinder unit produces 120 kW and 270 N.m of torque. The GLA 200d comes with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel, which churns out 110 kW and 320 N.m. Both engine options incorporate 48 V mild-hybrid tech, which provides an additional 10 kW during for short durations.

For the GLB, the 220d variant is available with a 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine, which generates 140 kW and 400 N.m of torque. All models come with an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
