The new Volvo XC90 Excellence has arrived in South Africa to assume its position at the summit of the local range.
The new flagship variant comes in at a price of R1 550 000, and is available on an order-only basis.
What sets it apart from other derivatives in the range? Well, for one, the super-posh SUV is built on a separate production line in Gothenburg. But, more importantly, it comes as a bespoke four-seater, essentially deleting three perches for the sake of luxury.
Each of the four leather seats features heating, ventilation and massage functions. The two rear seats offer electric adjustment (including fine-tuning of the side bolsters and an extendable seat cushion), while built-in foot-rests serve to further increase comfort levels. Passengers in the rear also gain two additional storage pockets and an arm-rest with built-in storage.
The rear perches furthermore feature nifty tablet-holders, folding tray tables, a 230V power outlet and a pair of USB ports. The cup-holders are heated and cooled, while a refrigerator is sited between the seats. Two hand-made Orrefors crystal champagne flutes are also included, while a glass partition separates the luggage area from the passenger compartment.
The XC90 Excellence is powered by the Swedish brand’s T8 Twin Engine drivetrain, comprising a 235 kW/400 N.m supercharged and turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, and a 65 kW/ 240 N.m electric motor fed by a 9,2 kWh battery pack. Total system output comes in at 300 kW and 640 N.m.
And the options list? Well, the XC90 Excellence is packed with so much standard kit that Volvo says the only choices to make are exterior paint colour and interior leather colour…
