Remember that Mercedes-AMG G63 Steampunk Edition Carlex Design revealed in January 2020? Well, the folks over at the Polish firm have now unwrapped another special version of Affalterbach’s iconic SUV, billing it the Yachting Edition.
According to the tuner, the Yachting Edition has been for produced for enthusiasts wanting opulence and a marine-styled design (it gave the same treatment to the X-Class in 2018). The two-tone exterior comprises aluminium-look brushed silver and black paintwork, with the latter hue surrounding the glasshouse to give it a “floating roof” effect. The bonnet, too, has been finished in black. Completing the exterior package are a bespoke spare wheel cover (featuring a nautical star), 22-inch alloy wheels and, of course, Carlex Design’s moniker, which replaces the Mercedes logo on the G63’s panamericana grille.
The tuner offers a choice of two handcrafted interiors. The first is upholstered in off-white leather and Alcantara, while the second features cognac-coloured hide, replete with contrasting accents. Owing to its yacht-like design language, there’s an abundance of wood, which can be found behind the rear backrests and in the luggage compartment. A nautical star with the model denomination has been embossed in the rooflining to indicate this is not your run-of-the-mill G-Wagen. In addition, the standard front pews have been ditched for bucket seats.
As a reminder, the latest-generation G63, which we tested in February 2018, boasts Mercedes-AMG’s 4,0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V8, sending 430 kW and 850 N.m (the latter on tap from a low 2 000 r/min) to all four corners via the German automaker’s nine-cog Speedshift automatic transmission. Mercedes-Benz claims these figures are enough to propel the 2,5-tonne SUV to 100 km/h from standstill in 4,5 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 220 km/h.
