Forbidden fruit? Ford Focus ST gets the wagon treatment!

By: CAR magazine

Back in February 2019, Ford revealed its new Focus ST hot hatch. Now the Blue Oval brand has whipped the covers off a wagon version, which like the hatch is offered in two fuel flavours.

Developed by Ford Performance, the ST Wagon is set to go on sale in Europe later in 2019. It’s highly unlikely, of course, to make its way to South Africa (in fact, Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has yet to confirm even the ST-badged hatchback for our market).

So, what are we missing out on? Well, like the hatch, the ST Wagon can be ordered with a 2,3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine mated to the front axle via either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic transmission. The four-cylinder unit churns out 206 kW and and 420 N.m.

There’s also the option of a 2,0-litre EcoBlue turbodiesel unit, sending 140 kW and 360 N.m to the front wheels exclusively via a manual gearbox.

As is the case with the hatch version, the ST-badged estate boasts items such as an electronic limited-slip differential, a rev-matching function and selectable drive modes. But is also features plenty more packing space thanks to that extended luggage compartment…
