After a number of teasers and spy shots, the covers on the Ram 1500 TRX have finally been lifted revealing a massive power output and a very capable chassis.

A standout feature of the 1500 TRX is the supercharged 6,2-litre HEMI V8 derived from Dodge’s Hellcat line-up. In 1500 TRX, it delivers 523 kW and 881 N.m of torque which, in conjunction with a high-torque-capacity TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, propels the truck from 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in 4,5 seconds and clears a quarter-mile in 12,9 seconds. The top speed is capped at 190 km/h.

With the ability to speedily tackle any section of unbeaten path at in mind, the 1500 TRX has been given a heavy-duty suspension setup. The frame makes use of thicker and strategically placed high-strength steel with low-torsion attributes. Using a hydroformed frame for better accuracy, the need for welding has been reduced. Among the 1500 TRX's go-anywhere credentials is an approach angle of 30,2 degrees, a breakover angle of 21,9 degrees, a departure angle of 23,5 degrees and 300 mm of ground clearance. Protecting critical components from hazardous obstacles are five underbody skid plates.

A fully independent front suspension features a high-strength aluminium construction with forged upper and lower control arms, while the rear adopts a multilink setup with 330 mm of travel to accomodate the Dana 60 rear axle. Both the front and rear benefit from active damping. Ram claims, that at 600 mm in length, the rear springs are the largest ever applied to a non-commercial production vehicle.

Giving the 1500 TRX its intimidating image is a wide and muscular body which Ram describes as a mixed martial arts fighter in a tailored tuxedo. Compared to the standard bakkie, this measures 203 mm wider. The wheel arches had to be extended to compensate for the 325/65R18 Goodyear Wrangler Territory all-terrain tyres and 6,0-inch increase in track.

With these components, Ram claims that the 1500 TRX can race over off-road terrain at 160 km/h with ease. Stopping power is provided by a braking system comprising 381 mm front and rear ventilated discs fitted with two-piston front and single-piston rear monoblock callipers.

In the cabin, the 1500 TRX makes use of innovative features and premium materials, built to withstand harsh driving conditions.
