Dubbed by Ford as its most powerful “street-legal” offering yet, the new Mustang Shelby GT500 is certainly not lacking in oomph. However, it seems that Hennessey Performance thinks otherwise, unveiling an uprated version of the Blue Oval brand’s halo pony car.

Beneath the Mustang Shelby GT500’s elongated bonnet, its 5,2-litre supercharged V8 churns out, as standard, 567 kW and 847 N.m of torque. But with extensive mechanical modifications, the Texas-based company managed to extract an additional 328 kW and 509 N.m. Add those figures together and the result is a rear-tyre-shredding 895 kW and 1 356 N.m (available at 7 000 and 4 800 r/min, respectively).

According to Hennessey, it has upgraded the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to cope with these increased outputs. Other modifications include revised intercooler and fuel systems, and upgraded pistons and rods. A stainless steel exhaust setup has been installed, too.

Furthermore, the US tuner has ditched the eight-cylinder mill’s supercharger in favour of a twin-turbo arrangement, and fitted a high-flow air induction system. Performance figures for the tweaked Mustang Shelby GT500 have yet to be announced.

The exterior has remained largely unchanged, with the only cues signalling this is not your run-of-the-mill Mustang Shelby GT500 being decals bearing the firm’s logo (one stretching across the windscreen while another smaller item is sited at the rear) and model-specific exterior badges.

Inside, Hennessey embroidered headrests can be found. And a plaque, signed by founder John Hennessey, is located on the facia.
