The next product to be treated with firearm resistance at the hands of SVI is the Ford Ranger Raptor. The new conversion package falls under the Ford-approved scheme that allows clients to order the armouring package straight from the Ford dealerships.
Built for B4 armoured specification, the SVI bullet-resistant Ford Ranger Raptor is able to withstand handguns up to the 44 Magnum. This is thanks to exterior protection that consists of 18-21 mm armoured glass in combination with Kevlar sheets for the body.
SVI explains that the application is discreet and adds 280 kg of mass to the Ford Ranger Raptor. As a result, the firm assures that minimal impact has been made on the bakkie’s acceleration, fuel consumption and dynamic performance.
The bullet-resistant Ford Ranger Raptor retains its Fox suspension set-up, meaning it’ll still be able to bash the dunes when needed. Ford South Africa has decided not to approve the higher B6 armouring level for assault rifles on the Raptor because of its lower payload compared to the other double cab Ranger models with this engine, for which B6 is approved.
The basic B4 armouring package on the Ford Ranger Raptor costs R454 271 excluding VAT and has a build time of around 10 weeks. This includes a four-year/120 000km comprehensive warranty, three-year/unlimited distance roadside assistance and five-year/unlimited km corrosion warranty. A six-year/90 000km service plan is included which covers six services.
In addition, customers receive a one-year/50 000km warranty on the armouring components from SVI Engineering. This is the first Raptor armoured under the Ford-approved armouring scheme that allows clients to order the armouring package straight from the Ford dealerships.
